What is an Optical Fiber ....??
Transparent fiber or optical fiber is a flexible, transparent shell made of coated glass (silica) or plastic in a diameter larger than human wool.
Optical fibers are often used as a means of transmitting light between two fiber ends and have been widely used in fiber-optic connections.
Optical fibers are usually formed as a transparent core surrounded by transparent coverage. The wrap will be something with a lower index of output, compared to the total. Light is transmitted through the spine in the form of a complete internal reflection.
The cables that support multiple distribution methods are called multi-mode fibers (MMF), while those that support single-mode cables are called single-mode cables (SMF). Multi-mode threads are usually wider and are used for short-distance communication links and single-mode threads are used for long-distance communication links.
Cables are used for lighting, composite fibers used as fiberscopes and specially designed fibers are used for other applications such as fiber optic sensors and fiber lasers.
